KUCHING, MALAYSIA - 'Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will never become prime minister on Sept 17.'
And Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Datuk Seri Dr James Masing was even ready to take bets -- a bowl of mee.
'Technically, it is impossible for him to be PM on that date,' he said after chairing his party's supreme council meeting here yesterday.
The three-hour long meeting was dominated by the political situation in the country.
Masing pointed out that even if Anwar succeeded in gaining the required simple majority to form the government, he had to go through a series of parliamentary processes and more importantly seek the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agung.
'How is he going to do that when Parliament is in recess? Parliament only reconvenes after Hari Raya. So who is going to make him prime minister on Sept 17?' Masing asked.
'I can assure you that all PRS MPs will remain loyal to Barisan Nasional and the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.' -NST
