Kit Siang to PM: Recall MPs from Taiwan study tour

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 - Veteran DAP leader Lim Kit Siang has called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to immediately recall the 54 BN parliamentarians
from their study tour abroad to prove that the ruling coalition "has nothing to fear about 916".

"BN leaders have repeatedly claimed that the BN MPs' junket to Taiwan was not meant to derail Anwar Ibrahim's '916' plan," Lim said in a statement to the media today, referring to the Sept 16 date set by opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to take over the government.

The Ipoh Timur MP also expressed his mortification at the negative publicity generated by the "blur, blur agriculture study tour." It has made Malaysia a "laughing stock" internationally, he said.

"Instead of conducting themselves as proud elected representatives of a nation held in high esteem in international circles, the 54 BN MPs are caught in a hide-and-seek with journalists as if they are fugitives from justice or agents of rogue nations as they are unable to give a honest and honourable explanation of the real purpose and reason for their sudden trip to Taiwan," said Lim.
He added that the MPs should cut short their trip and spare the country further humiliation.

Furthermore, Lim noted that the BN MPs should be home to observe the cultural importance of September. This is the fasting month for Muslims, the mooncake festival for the Chinese community and Sept 16 marks Malaysia Day.
