Khairy Urges Petronas To Reveal Details Of Its Profits

(Bernama) -- Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin has called on Petronas to make public the details of its profits, including its sources of revenue.Khairy said it was not fair that the people had to pay for higher fuel prices without knowing the details of Petronas operations."I will bring up the matter in the Dewan Rakyat.
The petroleum in Malaysia belongs to the people and Petronas is only the guardian of the natural resources," he said.He was speaking to reporters after handing over donation totalling RM5,000 from Sabah Umno Youth to Seri Mengasih Centre, a centre for special students here.He was asked to comment on the march held in Kuala Lumpur Friday to protest against the recent fuel prices increase.
Khairy, who is Umno Youth vice-chief, said he hoped the government would consider suggestions that Petronas make public its profit details. He said Petronas should also reveal whether it could afford to pay higher oil royalty to three oil producing states -- Sabah, Sarawak and Terengganu."We should understand that the three states are still lagging in terms of development and should be paid more. We want to know if Petronas can afford to do so," he said.
On the illegal gathering yesterday, Khairy said, Malaysians were against such a gathering."But this does not mean that they accepted the government's decision to reduce the fuel subsidy. I believe the people are still dissatisfied with the decision," he said.
