Health Ministry warning against ‘Mentalk Candy’

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has warned people from consuming “Mentalk Candy” as it contains a dangerous chemical substance.

The candy contains aminotadalafil, the safety profile of which has yet to be ascertained. It is also a new chemical entity that has never been detected before.

The substance is similar to tadalafil, which is used to treat erectile dysfunction.

It is believed Mentalk Candy is used for the same purpose.

Consuming the candy could cause heart failure and depression.

Besides that, prolonged use of the product could also result in loss of sight.

The Health Ministry has advised the public especially children not to buy or eat the candy and to report to the authority if the product is still available in the market.

Manufacturers and distributors of Mentalk Candy can be prosecuted under the Poisons Act 1952 and on conviction can be fined not more than RM5,000 or jailed not more than two years, or both.
