Officer can explain RM8m spent, says ex-Perak MB

(MalaysianInsider) IPOH, June 4 — The Perak government can obtain details of the allocation for small development projects amounting to RM8 million spent by the assemblymen of the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) government in the first two months of this year from the state development officer, former Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Tajol Rosli Ghazali said yesterday.

"They do not have to ask us. Just ask the state development officer. It is not a problem because the expenditure has been listed. The allocation was not provided in cash. If the projects were unreasonable, the officer will not have approved them," he said.

He said the Pakatan Rakyat state government had raised the matter to confuse the people because there was no problem in the expenditure of the allocation.

Tajol Rosli, who is chairman of the Perak Umno Liaison Committee, spoke to reporters after opening the general meeting of the Former Perak Barisan Nasional Elected Representatives' Council (Mubarak).

He said Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin can obtain the list of approved projects from the state development officer without having had to raise the matter through the media.

On Monday, Mohammad Nizar said it was never the intention of the state government to find fault because it only wanted the former assemblymen and state executive councillors to itemise the small projects and their cost to justify the expenditure.

"They had only to explain the type of expenditure incurred during the two-and-a-half months. We are not trying to say they are in the wrong. Just list the expenditure and the people can see how the RM8 million was spent in the two-and-a-half months. We are not making any allegation," he said.

Tajol Rosli said Umno would go on a statewide road show to inform and explain to the people various issues raised by the Pakatan Rakyat government.

"The present state government is not explaining its policies but is constantly hitting out at the previous BN government. I will not remain silent any more," he said.

The road show is to be launched today in Sungai Siput.

Tajol Rosli said he did not intend to contest any post at the Umno elections in December. "I did not contest any post in the 2004 elections either," he said. — Bernama
