KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 (ES) - Former Umno Vice President, Tan Sri Sanusi Junid is convinced that Umno faces extinction and would be non-existent by 2013 should the executive branch still be led by Dato' Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
That is also the reason why former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed decided to leave Umno.
"If this continues by 2013 Umno would be wiped out," he told Harakah in an exclusive interview at his residence yesterday afternoon.
Asked what was the reason that caused him to declare himself out of the party, Sanusi said there is no benefit whatsoever for him to stay in a party which is not showing any change, and also because he is not willing to stay in party that badmouths former leaders like Tun Mahathir.
"If he (Mahathir) stayed and waited until 2013, that means that he would a part of Umno destruction and one of the leaders not able to defend Umno," said Sanusi who was also a former agriculture minister and Kedah mentri besar. - Aza/ES
