Kuala Lumpur, May 27 : The government in the Malaysian state of Selangor has announced plans to provide scholarships to the children of the16 people from the state who have been detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

It also said that the wives of the detained would be given opportunities to start businesses and would bear the cost of travel for families visiting those under detention.

According to the New Strait Times, government minister Abdul Khalid also told the Indian community not to worry about its rights as the state government would ensure adequate representation for the community in local councils.

He was speaking after accepting memorandums from Gerakan Mansuhkan ISA (GMI) and Gerakan Masyarakat India calling for the abolition of the Internal Security Act.
