Gobind Challenges Khairy

I have today challenged UMNO Deputy Youth Chief Khairy Jamaludin to apologize unreseveredly to the Malaysian public for labeling those who participated in the BERSIH rally as ‘beruk-beruk’.

Khairy should take the lead from Dato Seri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein, his boss, who apologized for the keris waving incident recently. UMNO Youth should show its sincerity in turning over a new political leaf.

The ‘beruk’ issue became a hot issue during the last General Elections. In fact, Khairy threathened to sue me over the matter. According to him, I had at a ceramah in brickfields said he used the word against Indians. Firstly, he was wrong. I never said that. The video of the ceramah shows clearly that it was the rakyat who were present at the ceremah which said he was one after I had mentioned his name during my speech. That in itself shows the reaction of the rakyat over the issue. Secondly, I never said he used it on Indians as alleged.

The time has come for Khairy to reckon with the obvious and right the wrongs of UMNO Youth in the past. I therefore challenge him to apologize for making those derogratory remarks against Malaysians who did nothing more than merely seek assistence from their Yang Di-Pertuan Agung to help in the national crusade to ensure a cleaner and fairer election process in Malaysia .
