TAWAU: The family of the late Tan Sri Lau Gek Poh, a prominent tycoon here, has announced a whopping RM11 million contribution to charitable organisations.

Gek Poh Holdings Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk C.K. Lau said the contribution was meant for education, culture, religious and welfare development.

"Details of the contribution, including the beneficiaries, would be disclosed later," he said at the family's bereavement dinner here on Monday.

A well-known philanthropist, Lau passed away at Prince Court Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur on April 4 at the age of 92.

The late Lau was the founder and chairman of Gek Poh Holdings, the controlling shareholder of Hap Seng Consolidated Bhd and Malaysian Mosaics Bhd.
