How gullible are Malaysians?
Saiful's recent swearing on the Quran seems to have changed certain people's perception somewhat, at least from what is reported and questioned in the news.
Are Malaysians that gullible? Have they forgotten that evidence and proof beyond reasonable doubt is required to make a person guilty? People can swear to God, to heaven, to hell, with their lifes or even with their parents' lifes, but it still does not mean that they are telling the truth. Some put their hands on the Bible in court and swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, and they can still commit perjury (offence of wilfully telling an untruth or making a misrepresentation under oath). Anyway the way the swearing was done was already doubted by most Muslims and Muslim scholars.
Has the effect of the swearing overridden the evidence of the medical report by Dr Osman, which clearly stated that there was no sodomy on Saiful?
Saiful claimed that he was forcefully sodomised, but the police, after carefully making so much investigations and the attorney, after carefully studying the report (together with the medical report by Dr Osman), charged Anwar of having "consensual sodomy" with Saiful. Very doubtful, don't you think?
There are simply too many questions with regard to this "sodomy". The timing of the police report by Saiful and the timing of his swearing in the mosque, the denial by Najib of ever knowing him and the subsequent acknowledgement of meeting him for "study loan", the protection offered by the police for a "consensual sodomite" who make a police report, and the charging of the "other consensual sodomite".
Last but not least, rape victims are mostly not very cheerful, especially when it comes to confronting the memory of the event. However if the act is consensual, it could be another matter. And by the way, I think there is no other Prime Minister in this world who has taken so much interest in a "rape victim".
