Some elements in Pakatan may sabotage Anwar by-election

Hatred within Pakatan Rakyat towards Anwar, says Nik Aziz

KOTA BAHARU, Aug 8 - Pas Spiritual Leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat revealed today that there were elements of hatred in Pakatan Rakyat which are out to sabotage Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary by-election on Aug 26.

The Kelantan Menteri Besar said the elements were trying to undermine the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader's chances of winning the by-election.

"I reckon that there are indeed people who are envious of Anwar," he told reporters after opening the state-level MATTA Fair 2008, organised by the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents, here.

The Permatang Pauh by-election is held following the resignation of Anwar's wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, to make way for him to re-contest the seat. The nomination day is on Aug 16.

Nik Abdul Aziz urged those harbouring such hatred to forget about their intentions for the sake of Pakatan Rakyat.

"Give Anwar a chance to become a member of parliament," he said. Nik Aziz said even though Pas and PKR had different political ideology, Pas would support PKR in the by-election in the spirit of cooperation within Pakatan Rakyat.

"Pas should support Anwar even though we are hardly similar in political ideology," he said.

Nik Abdul Aziz said he would support Anwar because the PKR advisor was a Malay leader who had wide experience in the country's administration and was well-known in the international arena. - Bernama
