Reports lodged against Special Branch members

(The Star) - Eight sacked policemen have filed reports with the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) alleging corruption among certain members of the Lunas Special Branch 10 years ago.
The eight, all former lance corporals, are V. Nagarajan, Md Sharif Hashim, Zulkepli Awang, Ismail Saad, Baharudin Ahmad Razali, S. Thanikodi, Chuah Huat Beng and Wan Rosli Wan Mat Wahi.
Aged between 42 and 54, they are now working on their own, as security guards, lorry driver and contractors.
Speaking on behalf of the group, factory worker Nagarajan, 50, said they were stationed at the Lunas police station in Kedah when they were arrested on Jan 8, 1998.
He said prior to their arrest, one of them had rounded up several illegal Bangladeshi workers who were later released upon instructions from the Lunas Special Branch.
He said they were ordered to be detained for two years at the correctional centre at Simpang Renggam from March 21, 1998, and their employment were terminated on April 6.
He said they appealed and were released on Aug 19 that year due to lack of evidence.
He said that because of the unfulfilled promises of reinstatement, they were now filing their reports and would consider filing a court action early next month.
They lodged the reports at the ACA office in Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah yesterday but were told that the matter came under the jurisdiction of the ACA in Sungai Petani. They and their lawyer Darshan Singh Khaira are expected to meet Sungai Petani ACA on Sunday.
