Anwar says it won't be easy battle

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday said he would have an uphill task winning the by-election, following a spate of bad publicity about him.

He said slander was being spread about him in the constituency.

"It will only get worse as the by-election nears. However, in the end I believe the voters will not be swayed and will throw their support behind me," he told about 200 of his supporters after prayers at the Nadhoh Mosque here yesterday.

Also present were wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and PKR vice-president Mohamed Azmin Ali.

On Saturday night, while speaking at a gathering here, Anwar said his theme for the by-election would be "Agenda Permatang Pauh" (Agenda for Permatang Pauh).
A major feature, he said, was that he would reduce the pump price of petrol by 70 sen if he were to become prime minister.

"I will highlight economic issues and avoid personal attacks although the Barisan Nasional is going to town to attack me," he said. -- Bernama
