ANWAR: Normal for PAS supporters to want their leader to be selected

IPOH, FRI:

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today that he respects the view of the PAS Ulama Council on who should be the prime minister should the opposition succeed in forming the federal government after Sept 16.

“It is normal for PAS supporters to want their leader to be selected. But we will reach an agreement on the matter with the leaders of the parties involved.

“It’s the view of the members. For me, what they really want is that whoever becomes prime minister will not sideline Islam as the official religion.

That’s their sentiment,” he said.

He was asked to comment on the PAS Ulama Council’s stand that PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang was the most suitable candidate to be appointed prime minister should the PAS, PKR and DAP alliance succeed in forming the federal government after Sept 16.
Anwar, who will be contesting the Permatang Pauh parliamentary by-election on Aug 26, said the council was praying for his success at the poll.
