40,000 attended the Bukit Jelutong-Permatang Pasir Ceramah

Despatches from Permatang Pauh Nr. 4:

40,000 attended the Bukit Jelutong-Permatang Pasir Ceramah

August 18, 2008

What a response it was! 40,000 residents of Permatang Pauh attended the Bukit Jelutong-Permatang Pasir ceramah yesterday evening (August 17) which featured PAS and PKR leaders with special appearance of the candidate for Permatang Pauh constituency and local wira (hero), Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Not even the presence of the FRU could prevent this massive turnout. If this trend continues, there can be no doubt that the de facto PKR leader will be in Parliament on August 27, 2008.

For me, it is convincing evidence that Anwar Ibrahim is popular, and widely admired and respected by the people of Permatang Pauh. They seem to know that what they will be doing on August 26 at the polls will be decisive for Malaysia since Anwar is going to Putrajaya with the support of Pakatan Rakyat and disgruntled Parliamentarians of the UMNO-Barisan Nasional coalition. The voters know that UMNO in particular is doing its utmost to prevent this change of government which Anwar has repeatedly said is very much on track.

In fact, over the weekend, the entire Badawi Cabinet were in Seberang Jaya to launch a massive political strike on Pakatan Rakyat and to discredit Dato’ Seri Anwar. Their strategy is to use the recent swearing on the Koran by Saiful Bukhari that he was sodomised by the de facto leader. This move will fail and backfire on the reputation of Abdullah Badawi (the Bukit Jelutong audience kept yelling in unison “Bodowi! Bodowi!” at the very mention of his name).
