QUICK question: Does your idea of a perfect Friday evening involve cold beer, fried chicken and uploading pictures to your Facebook account? Also, have you forgotten how to play Poker with a real deck of cards?

If you answered "yes" to these questions, you need to join Facebook Anonymous (and, no, it's not an application found on Facebook).

Since its inception in 2004, Facebook has weaselled into the lives of more than 31 million users. So addictive are its applications and online games that The New York Times has reported that Facebook is lowering employees' productivity.

Research firms like IDC have also noted that users log in to Facebook once a day or "even a few times a day".

The site has become the hottest new application development platform on the Web.

When Facebook opened up its platform to independent developers in May last year, it became a hotbed for hungry start-ups which began dishing out applications like Booze Mail and iLike, which let you do anything from sending virtual Martinis to watching music videos.

So successful was it at attracting application developers that the site has more than 29,700 applications to date. Out of these, Superpoke - a fun feature that lets you poke, hug or slap your mates virtually - reigns as the most downloaded tool.

Here is Digital Life's take on the hottest Facebook applications.
