Ceramah at mosques should not be too loud

Ceramah at mosques should not be too loud
17 Sept, 2008

(The Star) Ceramah at mosques should not be broadcast too loud to a point where it disturbs the neighbourhood, especially those held in the evenings, said Perlis Mufti Dr Asri Zainul Abidin.

He said yesterday the call for azan (prayer times) should be broadcast accordingly and clearly to remind Muslims in the area to perform their requirement of praying five times daily.

“Other than the azan, other activities at the mosques, including private prayers, should not be broadcast at decibels deemed to be disruptive to neighbours in the area,” Dr Asri said after a motivation talk at Balai Islam.

He said Islam did not require its activities in mosques to disrupt the lives of others as what was enshrined in its teachings.

Dr Asri also defended his stance that the Internal Security Act (ISA) was unIslamic and disputed the contention of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Ahmad Zahid had said the definition of ISA was that it concerned national security and not religious practices.

  1. Actually if Steeven Ee and Madame Choo and the 189 people of Seksyen 5 Bandar Kinrara went to Kangar first sought Mufti 's advice which he freely and sincerely gives all the ruckus about dog food would never had happened. Sigh......

  2. The " Tun Abdul Aziz Mosque " in Petaling Jaya (PJ) district,
    should SERIOUSLY consider,
to stop playing Qur'anic recitation MP3's,
    on the loud-speaker system
    (for approximately a quarter of an hour;
    by 4 times a day),
prior to the Call to Prayer (' Aadhan ').

Just do a Quick Search on the Internet,
    about the Mosque,
& the following search items will appear :

" masjid bulat pj bising "
" tun abdul aziz mosque is noisy "
" masjid tun abdul aziz bising "
" masjid tun abdul aziz pj bising "
    " masjid bulat bising "

    [Q #1] What special ' authority ' do they ( ' the management ' ) think they have,
to force every man, woman & child (regard-less of creed),
    to listen to Qur'anic recitation,
coming from their own mouths ?

    [Q # 2 ] Shouldn't Qur'anic recitation be an act of worship
    by an individual Muslim;
    & not a source of public ' nuisance '
    to the surrounding communities ?

Numerous Qur'anic verses & Prophetic narrations can be found,
    reminding the Muslims,
against un-justly treatments to his / her neighbors.

Please, stop depriving Us, of Our rights
    to enjoy some tranquility,
in the comfort & luxury of Our OWN homes.

Just a " soft reminder " to You.

    Sincerely,

    – Thy Dis-concerted Neighbor ·

    Since these People
    BROAD-CAST Themselves
over the ' surrounding ' air

    I took the liberty

    Doing so,

    Realize that what You're doing
    is DEFEATING Your Purpose
    of calling People to Islam.

    To Muslims,
    You prevent Us
    from opening the Mus-haf
    ( Arabic for " Manuscript " )
    by Our-selves ,
    with Your LOUD Qur'anic recitation.

    To the Non-Muslims,
    You confuses Them
    with the extra-lengthy
    noise BEFORE the
    Call to Prayer.

    You cast the
    seed of HATRED, towards Islam ;
& the worst part of it ?
    You did so, KNOWING-LY ·

    On a side note,
    I leave the Readers
    with an INTERESTING fact :

    Those 3 said Individuals
    are KELANTANESE.

    I mean, it just doesn't
    make sense.

The late Nik Abdul Aziz bin Nik Mat
    [ Spiritual Leader of the
    Pan-Malaysian, Islamic Party ( PAS ) ]
    DID support a Ban,
on the use of external loud-speakers
    of a Mosque,
    SPECIFICALLY for the purpose
    of " Tarhim " ( Qur'anic recitation
    before Adhaan ) ·

    Now, isn't This
    a case for Irony ?
