Najib not involved, says honorary consul-general

BUTTERWORTH: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is not involved in the murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu, Mongolian honorary consul-general to Malaysia Datuk Syed Abdul Rahman Alhabshi said.

He said he had personally gone to Mongolia and visited Altantuya’s family and friends but could not find any evidence linking Najib or his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor to the crime.

“This is the first time I have made the announcement because I wanted to be certain and careful in my investigation,” he said when visiting the Barisan Nasional operations centre in Permatang Pauh last night.

Syed Abdul Rahman has been assisting Altantuya’s family from the moment of her death to the murder trial which had reached the submission stage in the prosecution case.

He said it was also illogical that Rosmah witnessed the murder as alleged in a news portal.

He added that Anwar was not telling the truth.

“I will not let him tarnish a popular leader like Najib. His accusation is tarnishing the good relationship between Malaysia and Mongolia,” he said.

Bernama quoted him as saying: “Datuk Seri Najib’s swearing is true and it is accepted that he has no connection with Altantuya.

“Not one document, photograph or video involved Najib.”

He said no one knew more about the case than him and the confusion could affect the good relations between Malaysia and Mongolia.
