IGP to sue Anwar

IGP to sue Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 – Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan will file a legal suit against Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for bringing his name into disrepute as IGP.

"I will be filing the suit against him (Anwar) through my lawyers Kamarul Hishamaad and Hasnol Rezua.

"It is my right whether to sue him or not," he said when contacted yesterday.

He was asked to comment on a report in a local Chinese newspaper that quoted sources as saying that Musa had asked Anwar to apologise to him within 40 hours or face a RM5 million legal suit.

According to the report, Musa had sent a lawyer's letter dated July 11, refuting that he had caused Anwar the "black eye" incident while he was the investigating officer in the sodomy case against Anwar in 1998.

Asked whether he had received a reply in writing or orally from Anwar to his request for an apology, Musa said: "I have not received any information on this from my lawyers."

On July 1, Anwar lodged a report at the Selangor police contingent headquarters on the falsifying of information with regard to the assault on him by the then IGP Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Noor when he (Anwar) was in police detention 10 years ago.

The police report also linked Musa, who was the investigating officer, and Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, who was then Senior Deputy Public Prosecutor, to the assault case. – Bernama
