Ezam files ACA report on S’gor soliciting funds (updated)

By DHARMENDER SINGH

SHAH ALAM: Former PKR Youth chief Ezam Mohd Nor lodged a report with the Selangor Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) here on Tuesday calling for an investigation into the misuse of power and corruption at the Mentri Besar’s office in soliciting funds for the state’s 100-days-in-office celebrations.

Ezam showing some of the documents after lodging a report at the ACA.

Ezam, accompanied by three other men, met with state ACA director Datuk Jaafar Mahad at his office at about 10.45am before lodging the report and handing over a document which he claimed was faxed from the Mentri Besar’s office.

The document showed the words Pejabat Mentri Besar Selangor (Selangor Mentri Besar’s office) at the top and had the name of Yahya Sahri, the former aide to the Mentri Besar, written on the cover copy.

Ezam, who refused to divulge the details of the contents in the document as it was now a police matter, said it contained a letter sent to a company to solicit funds for the celebrations. He said he had obtained the document from one of the companies approached.

“I am not making this report as an Umno member but as a Selangor resident born in Klang because the celebrations were supposed to be funded using taxpayers' money and that makes me an interested party,” he told reporters after lodging his report.

He said he was forced to make the report to prove his earlier claims of corruption in soliciting the funds as there had been claims that he was lying.

He said there was no political motivation to lodge the report and he would report any wrongdoing even if it involved Umno, as long as he had the documents to prove it.

The document handed over to the ACA, Ezam said, gave a clear indication of the misuse of power and corruption at the highest level of the state government within just 100 days after coming into power.

Jaafar later confirmed that a report was lodged and that he had received the documents from Ezam which could help the ACA’s investigations into elements of corruption over the soliciting of funds.
