Perak state building collapse due to consultants’ negligence

IPOH: The consultants assigned to the Perak State Park Corporation administration building are to blame for the building’s collapse last November, said senior executive council member Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham.

Ngeh (DAP-Sitiawan) said a report by an independent board of inquiry showed that the RM5mil building had collapsed due to “lateral and vertical movement of the column support.”

“The state government will refer them to the relevant professional bodies so that appropriate action can be taken against the consultants who had failed in the responsibility entrusted to them.

“As for the RM5mil allocation, the present (Pakatan Rakyat) government intends to get back the money,” he said in reply to a question by Yee Seu Kai (DAP - Pokok Asam) at the first sitting of the 12th Perak assembly here on Wednesday.

He added that the state was still awaiting a report from the Anti Corruption Agency to determine whether there had been any elements of graft involved in the incident.

The project, which was completed in May, 2006 was supposed to be a one-stop administration centre, a doorway into Royal Belum state park and a rest and recreational area for users of the East-West Highway.
