Dewan Rakyat: RM1.14m spent on 3 annually
9 May, 2008
(NSTOnline) THE government is spending RM1.14 million annually on three people. Zulkifli Nordin (PKR-Kulim Bandar Baru) said former women and community development minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil and Tan Sri Hamid Othman, received RM404,726.40 and RM549,675 a year respectively for being advisers to the prime minister.

He said a written reply from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi showed that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed received a total of RM180,000 annually after retirement.

Zulkifli said the RM1.14 million could have been used instead on building at least 36 houses for the poor.

Dewan Rakyat: Under fire over indelible ink

(NSTOnline) THE Election Commission and the government came under fire yesterday for not using indelible ink worth RM2.4 million in the March 8 polls.

Fong Po Kuan (DAP-Batu Gajah) said the issue was compounded by the fact that the decision was based on rumours and hearsay.

"We have a food crisis now. Datuk Bung Mukhtar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) has complained that there are schools in his constituency without electricity and water and here we are happily wasting RM2.4 million."

On Tuesday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar, in a written reply to Fong, had said police investigations had determined that fears of people buying such ink to create confusion were unfounded.
